Tomorrow, September 17, is Constitution Day! This national holiday is a wonderful opportunity for teachers of all grade levels to introduce an extra slice of Social Studies to their daily routine.

This day, which commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787, is a powerful educational tool that has the opportunity to shape our students' minds in ways that build lifelong citizenship. Constitution Day fosters active citizenship by allowing students to explore their role within the larger context of our country’s governance. We can use this day to encourage students to ask questions like "What rights do I have as a citizen?" and "Why is the Constitution important to me?"

A special resource I have collected for Constitution Day lesson planning comes from the Center for Civics Education webpage. Check out this link for lesson plans that teachers can use and adapt for free, grades K-12!
